TRAMA Lemuel Gulliver lavora negli uffici di un grande giornale come fattorino della posta. Ogni giorno gira con il carrello pieno di pacchi e lettere da consegnare a redattori e direttori. La sua vita senza entusiasmo, senza aspirazione e senza fiducia in se stesso lo condanna a quel posto da undici anni senza possibilità di promozione e a sognare di uscire con la caporedattrice della sezione Viaggi, a cui non osa nemmeno rivolgere la parola. Una buona e fortuita occasione però farà sì che gli venga data la possibilità di riscattarsi ai suoi occhi redigendo un reportage dal triangolo delle Bermuda. Durante il viaggio un gorgo al contrario lo catapulterà su di un'isola abitata da omini piccoli come un action figure e laboriosi come formiche. In breve diventerà l'idolo locale ma la fama e il consenso saranno tanto facili da guadagnare quanto rapidi da perdere.
C'è molto poco di "I viaggi di Gulliver" in questo adattamento indirizzato principalmente a un pubblico preadolescenziale. Non solo è affrontata solo la prima e più famosa parte, quella dei lillipuziani (con un vago accenno all'isola dei giganti), ma scompare anche qualsiasi velleità di critica sociale alla società attuale dietro la metafora di Lilliput. I fantastici viaggi di Gulliver come li ha pensati la 20th Century Fox sono un racconto exotic adventure-fantasy for kids and nothing more. In this sense, the film works, and many (thanks to last only 85 minutes thanks to a montage that goes for ellipses so as to suggest that originally there were more scenes then savagely removed in post-production) and Jack Black is perhaps more appropriate today, the interpreter for a similar role.
The adult child may finally be always without double meanings and double readings. Among the many things Gulliver purports to be the president of his country, talks about his life and meaningless drawing heavily from the history of cinema ("Hey! But you're not dead!" Exclaims one of the midgets before the final scene Titanic was told as the real life of the giant) and pretends to own the guitar riffs of Guns n 'Roses. In this adaptation of Lemuel Gulliver is in fact a Bignami most superficial of all elements of that figure and immediately funny that in almost 10 years Jack Black has built for himself. A single character that matches the actor and that he declines to be interpreted according to the role (in devastating High fidelity, romantic love does not go on vacation, serious in King Kong, Tenacious D in insane, stupid in Be Kind Rewind and so on).
But it is the relationship between variables that I look fantastic voyages of Gulliver seems to dare a bit 'more. From the opening credits with a shot effect light that makes it seem real small thumbnail images of New York, to the 3D (added in postproduction and not made in the recovery phase) used to make the idea of \u200b\u200bthe distance between the Lilliputians and Gulliver when you look from top to bottom or vice versa, the film tries to influence in any way by emphasizing the contrast of small / large.
