Steve Langasek has announced the release of Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 2 . The new incarnation of Karmic Koala has many new features for users. First, all packages have been updated and are synchronized with Debian Unstable. 
The most important update about the new 2.6.30 kernel, specifically the one included in Alpha 2 è denominato 2.6.30-5.6 ed è basato su 2.6.30-rc5. Il nuovo kernel ha abilitato il Kernel Mode Setting per schede grafiche Intel.
Ecco le altre novità introdotte:
- GNOME 2.27.1
- GCC 4.4
- ext4 come filesystem di default in fase di installazione
- Il nuovo boot loader GRUB 2 di default
