PLOT
Michael designed the renovation of commercial properties, Joanna is a freelance trying to overcome the 'impasse of the first novel. Together forever and married for four years, Michael and Joanna are leading a comfortable life in a New York apartment and ideal of the perfect. During a working dinner, watching her husband and his handsome new colleague, Joanna is disturbed their understanding. Determined to clear up what they saw or think I have seen, faces Michael admits that innocent charm and attraction of Laura. One night and two eggs later, the couple found the peace and wake to a new day will find them far away geographically and emotionally confused. In Philadelphia to meet with a client, Michael travels with Laura and enjoy the fantasy of perhaps quell'infedeltà. In New York while Joanna is surprised by Alex in front of a cafe, a love that never occurred already met and writes books and lives in Paris with the wrong woman. Within the same night but in different places and distant, Michael and Joanna will suffer the invincible force of desire.
Massy Tadjedin debutta magnificamente al cinema con una storia che sa più di vita che di letteratura. Aggiornandolo alla contemporaneità e inserendolo in un contesto contemporaneo, Last Night mette in scena il mal d’amore che si fa immancabilmente melodramma. Eludendo la parabola degli amanti senza via di scampo, l’esordiente americana di origine iraniana osserva e indaga gli atti mancati e quelli compiuti di uomini e donne che il capriccio del caso o la volontà personale incontrano nel tempo di una notte. Una notte soltanto per ritrovarsi o per respingersi, un’occasione che non si ripeterà per abbandonarsi interamente alla propria natura o per tenerle testa.
Last Night muove due storie e si muove su due piani, raddoppiando i sentimenti e declinandoli per generi: una passione di ritorno per la coppia Knightley-Canet, un’equazione inevitabile e folgorante per gli amanti Worthington-Mendes. A Philadelphia, dove l’amore manca e la dismisura domina, il linguaggio del film si fa materico e l’esplosione fisica degli amanti, assicurata e resa plausibile dalla bellezza aperta e dalla presenza carnale di Eva Mendes, corrisponde a un collasso dell’identità del marito di Sam Worthington. A New York invece la vicenda d’amour fou è una partita più sofisticata, giocata da due anime dolenti che non ce la fanno a voltare pagina, spettatrici della loro innocenza perseguitata da un amore di cui non smetteranno mai di essere capaci. Il volto irregolare e la sensualità modulated by the modesty of Keira Knightley is coupled with the narrow face of tragic Guillaume Canet, who celebrates with his interpretation of the impossibility of fulfillment el'ininterrotto continuation of unhappiness which is the lifeblood of painful melodrama.
Massy Tadjedin insists on the first floors with Magic ever participation without judging his characters but merely licking the night-time tours, to consider the love that has been offered to attend to the way in which emotions determine their entire lives. Those starting after last night, when lovers rewind the wishful thinking and the only possible relief valve are the tears. Image of feelings repressed and on the intention to say without ever saying a Last Night is suspended in the boundary confining the pathos and the certainties revealed.
